Positive for Chinese football

2 Aug

In football, the East Asian Cup took place at the end of July, and surprise, surprise, China did very well to finish in second place with a win over Australia and no losses. Of course, it’s not possible to draw too big a conclusion from this since the other countries including Japan, Australia and South Korea were mostly fielding young, inexperienced sides. Incidentally all three of these countries also qualified for next year’s World Cup. Still, at least it’s a positive for China, which has been very dismal in football recently. I managed to watch China’s opening match versus Japan, when they got an early lead, only to see Japan strike back with 3 goals in the second half, before fighting back with two late goals, the third goal being a great tap-in from a cross, to draw 3-3.
